How much do CEOs make? Last year, the answer ranged from $0 to nearly $300 million, according to The Wall Street Journal’s annual ranking of S&P 500 companies.

The median CEO’s compensation package in 2021 was $14.7 million. Most of that amount comes in the form of equity awards that could ultimately prove to be worth more or less than initially reported. The median salary, bonus and other cash compensation was $4.1 million.

Some well-known CEOs, such as Tesla Inc.’s TSLA 5.14%▲ Elon Musk and Apple Inc.’s Tim Cook, ended up at different ends of the most-recent ranking, which is based on data collected by MyLogIQ LLC. There were more than 400 companies in the analysis, which excludes those companies whose CEO changed during the year. See how they compare and search the entire database.
